Intake-Assessment-Documentation
Veterinary Referral
- First and foremost,
we require that all new
clients have their horses evaluated by their
veterinarian. Only your vet can offer a diagnosis. It is
important that no conditions exist that
would contraindicate the use of the therapeutic modalities
we employ. What is appropriate in certain cases
may be inappropriate in others. If you would like the
names of the veterinary professions in our area for diagnostic
and/or referral purposes, please call our office. We
also enjoys referrals from farriers, equine chiropractors,
acupuncturists, dentists and
saddlers.
Postural & Gait Assessment of Horse &
Rider - Imbalances in the horse are often related to
imbalances in the rider. Both you and your horse will be
assessed for postural and gait imbalances and distortions,
individually and as a team. For objective assessment, we
may employ goniometrics, algometrics and other measurement
tools typically used in physical therapy. The assessment
process is not diagnostic and we do not perform "lameness"
testing. If your horse is lame, please contact your
veterinarian. Measurements are taken
to establish a base line against which results can be
measured.
Therapy Session Reports Provided to Client &
Vet
-
A complete, customized, graphic report of your horse's
condition upon the completion your horse's initial evaluation
and therapy session, can be sent to you and your
veterinarian
-
Equine Physical Therapy Case Records based
on clinical APIE/SOAP notation are completed
for follow-up sessions as necessary
-
Therapeutic exercises are recommended as part of
after-care/preventive/rehabilitation program
-
Horse Holistics keeps files on your
horse's therapy sessions so progress can be
monitored

Massage & Manual Therapies -
Rates begin at $70 per
50 minute session

Human & Equine Sports Massage
- This therapy
form is offered either pre-event, inter-event, or post-even and is
applied to the 25 stress points as outlined by the late, Jack
Meagher, PT, LMT-father of human and equine sports massage.
For enhancing athletic performance.
Human & Equine Integrative Therapy - This is not an individual
therapeutic technique in and of itself but rather a
conglomeration of any and all of the therapeutic techniques as
they are needed to address specific soft tissue dysfunction.
In addition to those listed, Deep Tissue, Swedish, certain
non-invasive Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques such as
acupressure, moxibustion and cupping, may also be employed. If
pain relief is the goal, this is your best bet.
Human & Equine Myofascial Release -
For Connective
Tissue (CT) conditions such as fascial adhesions causing pressure on
capillaries and nerves as well as decreased
elasticity and mobility around joints
Human & Equine Neuromuscular & Trigger Point Therapy
- For relief of
muscular hypertonicity, trigger points, nerve entrapment and
resetting of fiber length for full range of motion and maximum
muscle power. This therapy is more restorative with longer
lasting effects than simple sports massage and employs Myofascial
Release techniques.
Human & Equine Raindrop Therapy [NEW!] - Incorporating healing essential oils to
help you and/or your horse deeply relax, eliminate toxins and
bolster immunity. Leslie offers this as a Clinic as well.
Learn to use this effective technique with your horses. Call
or e-mail for Clinic details.
Muscle Energy, PNF &
Positional Release - These Manual
Therapies are a mainstay in human osteopathic medicine and
physical therapy. Very effective in relieving muscle spasm and
holding patterns.
Soft
Tissue Mobilization, Gymnastics & Stretching -
Passive
& active range of motion, proprioceptive rebuilding/retraining
& other physio-modalities. Your horse is measured pre and
post session to document improvement. You will be amazed at
how dramatic even one session can be to regaining top
form.
Swedish Massage Therapy for
Stress & Tension - There's nothing
like full body, Swedish Massage for relieving stress and tension of
mind, body and spirit. This modality helps to
unwind tension, detoxify soft tissue and restore
balance.
Regardless of which therapeutic modality is used, we
allow the horse to dictate what s/he can and cannot tolerate as
therapy is a two-way exchange and something that must
not be forced. Horses that have never experienced
therapeutic massage, are often extremely sore and
hypersensitive. In such cases, Swedish Massage may
be the only form of massage they can initially tolerate
and becomes the platform upon which we build through
compliance. Usually by the second session, they are better
able to sustain deeper tissue work.

Miscellaneous
Travel Costs
to Clinics/Farms/Shows - Land travel charges are based on time and
mileage, roundtrip. The charge may be split between the
number of horses at a single destination. If trip time is
longer than two hours one way, a Day Rate is charged. Other
travel costs such as airfare, car rental, lodging, etc. are
reimbursed based on actual expenses incurred (e.g., for Clinics,
Horse Expos and Shows, etc.) in addition to services provided. Often
times, it's more cost effective for a client to "trailer in."

Don't neglect your own
body! Large animal vetting is hard
work requiring long hours filled with s-t-r-e-s-s. While it may
be easy to ignore pain signals in the short term, it
is just a matter of time before just getting out of bed becomes
a challenge. Let us help
